We had the good fortune of connecting with Assane Dieme and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Assane, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Just keep going. Whether it is going bad, stagnant, or good, you shouldn’t let small setbacks have an effect on you. Being stubborn is also a good thing, you just have to weather the storm and stay consistent. Letting your emotions get in the way is the biggest obstacle.

What should our readers know about your business?
It’s been 5 years now since I created my business. It has been a hell of a ride, to say the least. I would’ve given up a long time if I didn’t believe in myself. Being in the furniture business is not easy, but our products are imported from Africa and are authentic. We focus on bringing the art and culture of Africa through home decor. Now we have a partnership with Wayfair that gave us a big exposure among interior designers in the U.S and Canada.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Charlotte is a great place to live, you have the best of both worlds with the lakes, the fun in Uptown, and the beach a couple hours away. I like the artsy part of Charlotte, especially Noda where you can meet creatives. But I am a person who loves water so the lakes are always a good fun trip, where you can enjoy the restaurants or a boat ride.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
African Food truck. They made themselves a name in the Charlotte area
