We had the good fortune of connecting with Annie Linville and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annie, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is so much more than just doing Kegels. One thing most people outside the field don’t realize is that pelvic floor dysfunction can show up in many different ways—leaking, pain with sex, constipation, pressure or heaviness, and even low back or hip pain. And it’s not always about strengthening; sometimes the pelvic floor is actually overactive and needs to learn how to relax. We assess the whole person, not just isolated muscles, because the pelvic floor works in coordination with the diaphragm, deep core, and hips. It’s a deeply nuanced and individualized approach, not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a pelvic floor physical therapist which is a specialty in the PT world. I focus on women’s health which includes treating issues like pelvic leaking, pressure or pain, pre and postnatal rehabilitation and dysfunction into peri and post-menopause. I have a strong background in sports and orthopedics so I really love working with female athletes. I help women who struggle with return to fitness due to issues described above.

In school, I never thought this would be my specialty but I love it because it makes a huge difference in someone’s quality of life. It’s a vulnerable topic and many women don’t reach out for help because it is dismissed or simply accepted as the norm. I love getting these patients and revealing how much potential they have for improvement to be able to enjoy movement again.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would bring them to the Whitewater Center. We love to go here for live music, hikes, the Wildwoods playground if the kids are joining. Something for everyone.

We would grab smoothies at Green Brothers – the best in Charlotte! A glass of wine at Dilworth Tasting Room. Ice Cream at Seemingly Overzealous. My favorite restaurant in Charlotte is Supperland – so would definitely be going there for dinner!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my husband, Drew. Starting a small business and going out on your own is intimidating. I am so grateful for his support, stability, and encouragement over the last 5 years.

I’d like to recognize my friend Jamie Horn and her role in my success as a business owner. I know Jamie through the fitness industry in Charlotte. We coached together at a gym and were actively involved in the fitness community. Jamie owns a business called the 360 Method which specializes in fitness for perinatal women. With a lot of clients needs’ overlapping, Jamie was one of my biggest supporters in starting by company. She refers clients to me, speaks positively about pelvic floor PT, and will always like and share the word on social media. She is all you’d want in a hype girl and I am grateful the role she played, especially in the early days of my business.

My friend Garrett Tichy, who owned Hygge Coworking at the start of my business. Garrett is an expert entrepreneur. His help and support allowed me to secure my first brick and mortar clinic space – which is what made it all begin.

My friend Sydney Houdyshell. Sydney is a YouTube fitness sensation. Sydney has a huge following – many of them women who could potentially benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy. Through her collaborations, shout outs, constant uplifting, I’ve been able to reach people throughout the country to spread the word on the benefits of seeing a pelvic floor PT, whether you’ve given birth or not.
