Meet Andrea Morris | Owner & Principal Interior Designer, Lancaster Place Interiors

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
For the most part, I have always been somewhat adverse to risk-taking. I have embraced predictability and haven’t been a huge fan of change. Until… I hit middle-age and suddenly found myself caring less about others’ expectations and came into my own, ready to pursue new dreams. An unexpected move to Wilmington, NC in my fifties (due to my husband’s job change) elicited a spark in me, and I decided to further my education to become an interior designer. I jumped in head-first and was so excited to pursue something I’d always loved. Maybe because it was meant for me, I felt little to no fear and consumed the education and new relationships with fervor. I also realized that I wanted to be my own boss, on my own terms, so without hesitation, I started my own company after graduation. So this predictable, people-pleasing personality never looked back and is now two years into her new career.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve worked hard to become an interior designer who blends creativity, technical skills, and client needs. I’ve invested many hours in building my knowledge, focusing on my style and becoming confident in my ability to create spaces. I’ve also offered virtual consultation which sets our brand apart by offering comprehensive mood boards, 3-D perspectives, and shopping lists.
Definitely not easy! I’ve faced the challenges of standing out in a competitive industry, building a client base, and managing a growing business with things like social media, community involvement, and continuing education. I’ve been persistent and focused on offering sincerity. By emphasizing my personal story, showing authenticity, and being consistent, I’m building trust with clients, both past, present, and future while navigating the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that authenticity matters. Clients, despite their budgets, are drawn to a designer who is real and relatable. Consistency is of utmost importance, and there must be high quality design and clear communication at all times. I’ve learned I have to be adaptable. Whether it’s embracing new tools for virtual consultations or staying updated on design trends, I’ve learned that I have to be flexible to be relevant. Most importantly, this business is as much about people as it is about beauty. Having strong, lasting client relationships is central to progress.
My story is about transformation, not just of spaces but of one’s self. With my WELL AP certification, I’m redefining my own life and others’ by focusing on the wellness aspect of design, embracing personal growth and success. My brand stands for approachable luxury, where anyone can experience beautifully designed spaces. I want people to know that my designs are intentional, creative, and always putting their needs first.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, where to start! For anybody visiting the Wilmington area, I have a list of must-dos that are sure to please. Our local beaches are beautiful, so spending a few hours enjoying the relaxing water is a must. To continue seaside, one of my favorites for lunch is Solstice at the Lumina Resort in Wrightsville Beach. With delicious food, great service, and gorgeous views of the ocean, it is my happy place. During the week, my favorite spots for the best vintage and unique finds are Primrose Cottage, Baker Street Curiosity Shop, and Ivy Cottage. Everyone is sure to find something they must have, whether it be furniture, decorative accessories, or fascinating, old books. After an afternoon of shopping, a coffee stop at Port City Java Masonboro. I love the smells, the environment, and coziness, and it’s awesome it’s not far from my house. Wilmington is a town with great history (notice all the Wilmington mentions in the TV series, Outlander), so a visitor must take advantage of the different activities that honor it. The Cape Fear Museum, Wilmington Ghost Tours, the NC Battleship, Fort Fisher State Historic Museum, and the Outlander in the Cape Fear Water Tour are some of my favorites. This list is incomplete, but I’d encourage any visitor to look up historical sites in the area and visit. There are more unique restaurants for dining than you could ever visit, but some favorites to locals are Indochine, and any of the riverfront restaurants (George’s, Pilot House, Elijah’s) are awesome. If you’re into sports, we enjoy attending UNC Wilmington basketball games.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I couldn’t have gone back to school without the ongoing support and cheerleading from my daughters and husband. They helped me get through the more difficult assignments and learning curves, and encouraged me to never give up. I also want to thank design colleagues who have supported my unique color-loving style and have instilled in me the idea that my uniqueness, personality, and approach set me apart.
