We had the good fortune of connecting with Alonza Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alonza, what is the most important factor behind your success?
In addition to possessing talent, I’ve come to realize the value of relationships and the connections you build. My journey wouldn’t have been possible without the meaningful relationships I’ve cultivated. Your talents will get you noticed, your relationships will get you through the door.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a dedicated student of my craft has been instrumental in my success. Whether it’s studying photography during times I can’t practice, learning from experts on platforms like YouTube, or gaining insights from others’ mistakes and growth, I believe continuous learning is essential for artistic growth.

While the journey hasn’t been easy, facing challenges in self-worth and defining my identity as an artist, I’ve learned to let my true self and creative expression define my work. While I’m committed to learning from others, I’m also committed in expressing who I am as an artist and what I’ve learned about myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for the week, I would take them to a place in Raleigh called North Hills. We would do things like go to all of the shopping centers try some of the food places like Bar Taco, and go hang out at the movies. North Hills always has something happening, and for me, it represents the elevated side of Raleigh, making it a nice place to hang out with a friend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I attribute my success as an artist to my fiancée. She is my go-to person for discussing creative thoughts, ideas, and translating my visions into reality. Without her support and understanding, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

I also credit some of my recent success to two impactful books I read: “Crazy Faith” by Michael Todd, which taught me to believe in God for miraculous outcomes, and “Atomic Habits” by James Clear which guided me in building habits to sustain the faith necessary for such moments. These books have been instrumental in shaping my journey towards success.
