We had the good fortune of connecting with Alesja Daehnrich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alesja, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We wanted to help animals who are in the blind spot of the public – farm animals. Farm animals are some of the most abused, exploited and misunderstood animals. Farm animals are often hidden from the public eye and the society has very little, to connection to farm animals. We wanted to change that!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My husband and I (Alesja) have full time jobs outside of the sanctuary. We have regular office jobs as they provide a much needed safety net to the 150 rescued animal kids that call BSAS home!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary! Come out, get some fresh air and surround yourself with many, funny, charismatic and full of personality farm animals! Enjoy some vegan snacks with our volunteer team and best of all, get a workout as you land a hand and help provide care to many rescued animals such as horses, donkeys, pigs, alpacas, emus, goats, sheep and birds.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our volunteer team!

BSAS wouldnt be where we are today if its wasnt for our incredible team of volunteers! BSAS doesnt have paid staff as we are an all-volunteer organization. Our volunteers are the never stopping working bees who make this place a beautiful sanctuary that is home to over 150 animals.

Our volunteer team consists of many zooming bees of all ages, different backgrounds and experience levels. We have a team of retirees who work harder than any college student! We have professionals who are here regularly to get away from everyday life and make a difference in the life of rescued farm animals.

Farm work is no joke! Its labor of love!
