We had the good fortune of connecting with Alana Sharps and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alana, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I’m a firm believer of treat people how you want to be treated. I want to be treated with respect; therefore I respect everyone I come in contact with. I also believe in karma. I have watched karma negatively impact the lives of people who chose to treat others poorly.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Certified High Conflict Divorce and Child Custody Consultant. I assist domestic abuse survivors during their divorce and child custody battles by providing emotional and strategic support as they navigate the legal system. I’m passionate about what I do based on my own experience navigating the legal system not understanding how it works while enduring post separation abuse. My experience helps me support my clients in addition to my training. The hardest part of what I do is listening to the stories of emotional, financial, and legal abuse in addition to ongoing manipulation and coercive control. The stories are heartbreaking. When I first started my business, I had a hard time separating my work life from my personal life leading to stress. I had to learn to practice self-care to take care of myself in addition to taking care of my clients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city of Raleigh include visiting the local restaurants and museums. I enjoy walking through the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, North Carolina Museum of Art and the North Carolina Museum of History. I also enjoy dining at a variety of restaurants in the downtown and surrounding areas. Some of my favorite restaurants in the downtown area include ORO, Taverna Agora, Irregardless, Second Empire, and Mulino. For the surrounding areas, I love to dine and shop at North Hills and the Fenton area in Cary, NC.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my close friends and family for believing in me and giving me encouragement when I needed it the most.
