We had the good fortune of connecting with Adra Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Pursuing entrepreneurship was an easy decision due to my exposure to close family members owning multiple businesses for 30+ years. You can say I caught the entrepreneurship bug! At the age of 11, I began working for the family business answering phones, later becoming an administrative assistant & ultimately becoming a commissioned Mortgage Loan Officer for approximately 10 years. After the crash of 2007/2008, I began working at a major bank in the mortgage division for approximately 9 1/2 years. In search of more fulfilling activities, I found an esthetics program. While working full-time, I attended school (the esthetics program) full-time. After I graduated from the program (Summa Cum Laude), I started my journey as an esthetician while working full time. I decided to start my business right after graduation because I knew with my previous professional experience, creativity & skills, I could offer services on the level clients would appreciate. It was inspiring to know that performing a facial could promote healing & makeup applications could enhance beauty from within. I knew the services I would provide would enhance the lives of my clients on a day to day basis. I fell in love with performing facials, receiving facials, waxing legs, applying makeup & the science of it all was very interesting. I was hooked!! Being that I naturally love to take care of people, the esthetics field was a perfect fit for me. In October of 2020, I was laid off due to COVID-19 & had the exciting opportunity to pursue my esthetics career full-time! Although challenging, this has been a very rewarding journey as hard work and dedication really does pay off!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
B. Enhanced Beauty offer facials/body treatments, skin care products, massage & makeup application that meet the individual needs of the clients. Clients are educated about their skin type & given recommendations for the proper products which allows maintenance of their self-care day to day until their next visit. A safe space is provided for the clients to relax, release, reconnect with inner peace & learn methods for stress management. The ambiance includes a customized playlist cultivating a mood of joy, peace, relaxation and/or happiness. The usual beverage(from a local vendor) is chilled kombucha tea, organic cold pressed juice or alkaline water served in champagne flutes. The mind, body & soul of a client is Enhanced after a session at B. Enhanced Beauty! I am so proud of the growth of B. Enhanced Beauty. I remember providing makeup for free just to build my portfolio or stressing about where I would perform facials when I didn’t have a space of my own. I now have a beautiful intimate suite to perform services. I am proud to have used my own personal finances to build my business & now I reinvest the money it makes. My biggest accomplishment was making the decision to pursue my business full-time right after being laid off from my full-time job in 2020. I had the courage to continue building my business in the midst of a pandemic. Almost 4 yrs later B. Enhanced Beauty is still standing even with the inflation wreaking havoc on the economy. I am proud my years of hard work has created a safe space for my clients & also for myself. I abrubtly lost my mother in 2022 which is the hardest obstacle I’ve had to endure. I am proud to have created a business that provides the intimate & peaceful environment allowing me to occupy my mind & heal simultaneously. Instead of getting lost in my grief, I focus on implementing all she has taught me to propel forward. I’m able to empathize with clients struggling with grief & loss. I have the ability to offer encouragement that only a person who knows what they are going through can offer. It makes me proud when I can see a client’s confidence building after numerous sessions or remembers their service from a year ago & just had to make an appointment. I am proud when clients apologize for staying too long because “I love it here”. I am proud my clients prefer my business because they feel seen, heard & catered to. B. Enhanced is not only a place for natural enhancement but also healing. I am proud B. Enhanced Beauty is a representation of who I am as person/business owner.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
North Hills shopping Center is a place you can go to get occupy yourself with movies, bowling and a great meal, etc. If you go to downtown Raleigh or Durham you are bound to find the best cuisine. Book a Spa day at B. Enhanced Beauty to enjoy a facial , massage and/or reflexology which is for the grown and self aware! There is always a paint and sip happening somewhere in Raleigh. I have an animated personality at times but I do enjoy my solitude. I am definetely not in the running to be a travel agent or host for out of towners. I may not be the best person to ask what to do when coming to Raleigh. I have plans to do more and acquire more experience regarding this subject in the future. LOL

There are so many great women that I could acknowledge!
