We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Haynes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Wilkesboro, North Carolina, where I grew up facing challenges that shaped my resilience and passion for helping others. Born with a cleft lip and cleft palate, I endured bullying and felt outcasted, which fueled my desire to uplift others. Becoming a single teen mom at 17 taught me perseverance and responsibility. My journey through hardships, faith, and rediscovering my confidence inspired me to build a business that empowers women to embrace their beauty, strength, and God-given worth.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career journey began with Amway Global, where my mentor, Tavia, introduced me to makeup and the art of doing weddings. From there, I worked at the MAC counter and participated in Greensboro and Winston-Salem Fashion Weeks as a local makeup artist. I assisted at weddings to refine my skills and took classes with industry experts like Yonique Brenson, Vee, Beatface Honey, and Tiyanna Robinson. Each step helped me improve tremendously, but it wasn’t always easy.

Investing in myself was a challenge, especially when funds were tight. Many times, I stepped out on faith, trusting that my investment in education and mentorship would pay off—and it always did. I’ve learned that when you feel stuck financially or mentally, it’s time to seek guidance from someone with experience. That’s why I value mentorship and coaching so deeply; I still have two amazing mentors who guide me today.

What sets me apart is my focus on multicultural weddings and a diverse clientele. I’m proud to say I can confidently work with all skin tones, thanks to the variety of experiences I’ve had throughout my career. Courtney K Beauty is more than a brand—it’s a lifestyle. My mission is to encourage and teach women to feel confident from the inside out.

I’ve been through it all: bullying, heartbreak, depression, and so much more. But I’ve emerged stronger, living a life of freedom and victory. I’ve learned that no matter what challenges a woman faces, a makeover can be transformative. When you help a woman feel beautiful, loved, and confident, she can conquer anything.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d make sure she experienced the best the area has to offer! We’d kick things off with dinner at Luxe Restaurant downtown Greensboro, followed by dessert at Maxi B’s for some of their amazing cake. For a full day of self-care, I’d take her to my suite for the works—a full-body wax, lash lift and tint, brow tint, and a relaxing facial. We’d finish with a massage at Balance Day Spa to feel completely rejuvenated.

Mid-week, we’d visit Charlotte for a dinner at The RoofTop, enjoying the city views and vibes. During the week, we’d make candles at Strike and Flame Candle Bar, test our skills at Topgolf and an escape room, and indulge in a fun Tabata class with my friend Tonya to balance out all the eating. Speaking of indulgence, we’d also stop by Prime and Pura Vita for unforgettable dining experiences.

We’d wrap up the trip with a nail and pedicure session by my talented friend Keonte at K’s Canvas Nails. It would be a week filled with self-care, amazing food, and unforgettable memories—a perfect mix of relaxation and fun!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband, Corey, who has been with me through it all from day one. His consistency, loyalty, and unwavering love have been a constant source of strength and inspiration in my life.

I also want to honor my children, who have been my greatest motivation. From being a single mom to overcoming postpartum depression and even moments when I wanted to give up, they inspired me to keep pushing forward every day. The “I AM” collection was born during my journey out of postpartum, allowing me to build a deeper relationship with God and become a better mom. Everything I do is for them—I’m creating a legacy for them to carry on and be proud of.

For mentorship, I have to thank Tiyanna Robinson and Cherise Loren. They literally held my hand through the early stages of my bridal makeup journey, creating a safe space for like-minded women to grow and learn the business and artistry behind makeup. It’s because of their guidance that I have the knowledge and confidence I do today.

Lastly, a book that has deeply impacted me is After the Rain by Alexandra Elle. Life often throws curveballs, but this book helped me navigate those rollercoasters of fear, faith, and growth during my most difficult times. It inspired me to keep pressing forward and trust the journey.
