We had the good fortune of connecting with Corinne Cochrane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corinne, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I feel like with any risk even personal having the courage to face rejection is something you have to be comfortable with. I have emailed countless amounts of coordinators, possible brides and multiple other clients. You need to accept the fact that we work in a dense industry and there is competition. What makes me stand out, besides my work would be my personality. I tend to be called bubbly and energetic and on photoshoots that is the energy clients feed off of. I bring forth the fun side so that their walls drop and we can have a successful session. Not everyone is trained to be a model so direction is always key and I have learned how to approach this in a comfortable way and also having been in front of the camera myself, due to my videographer husband I can sympathize with them.

What should our readers know about your business?
I combined creativity, technical experience and a passion for capturing peoples most precious moments. My company is called Beatha Photography which is Gaelic for Life. I want to capture life. The happy moments, the successful moments, the joy, the emotional etc. I choose the Gaelic translation due to being an immigrant from Scotland. I have live in the States for about 20 years and had all the tools to become successful that any other person here did but never had the courage to take the leap. I studied photography on and off throughout school and never took the necessary steps to tweak my skill set, until my husband came along. A challenge I have faced a long the way would be getting my name out there. Due to the dense industry you can find a photography almost anywhere. But trying to stand out and be the person someone chooses for their big day or their momentous occasion can be a challenge. But just like with anything you have to push through and accept the rejection and keep mastering your skill so that your work speaks for itself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My twin sister actual lives in Boston and has already visited me twice. We took her to Wats and Ward for drinks and it was definitely a great place for cocktails. Me and my husband love Optimist coffee shop highly recommend to start the day there and we always love going to Dorothy Dix park for the dogs. We have brought blankets before and had picnics the area is so versatile. We would then do lunch at Gym Taco because we love the vibe and food. We would probably stop by NC art museum as well.

If they were here for a week I would either head to the beach or head to the mountains. We loved Carolina Beach and the drive was not too far. The sand is soft and the water is so blue, they also have a really great board walk with restaurants and fun things to do with a family. If we headed to the mountains I would go to Sliding Rock and Looking glass falls and do a few hikes.

The number one quote you hear in Raleigh is “we are two hours from the beach and two hours from the mountains.”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The only person I can credit my work to would be my husband. He has a successful and thriving business and due to his hard work and determination I was able to see a life outside of the typical 9-5. He gave me the tools I needed to kick start my own company and basically handed me everything I needed. Not a lot of people get that to start off with. I also have the luxury of bouncing off ideas from him, using his editing system, and being able to tag along on many of his shoots as an assistant. I would not be were I am today without him. Thank you Diego.
